New Roof Installation

A new roof is one of the biggest investments you'll make in your property. Done well, it protects your home for 40-100+ years, lifts kerb appeal, and adds real value to your sale price. Done badly, it costs you sleep, leaks within a few years, and costs a fortune to fix.

When you need a new roof

Most roofs don't fail suddenly — they give years of warning. You probably need a full replacement if:

• The roof is over 25 years old and showing multiple problems
• You've had several repairs in the last 5 years and they keep recurring
• Tiles or slates are visibly deteriorating — cracking, spalling, missing granules
• The felt or membrane underneath has failed in multiple places
• There's visible sagging between rafters
• Multiple leaks in different parts of the roof
• The roof was poorly installed originally (we see this often)

What's involved

A full re-roof isn't just a re-tile. Done properly it includes:

1. Strip the existing roof — remove all tiles/slates, battens, felt/membrane, ridge and hip tiles, lead flashings
2. Inspect the structure — check rafters, trusses, valley boards, fascias for damage or rot
3. Replace any damaged timber — if we find rotten rafters or sarking boards, we replace them at cost
4. Install new breathable membrane — modern high-performance felt that allows the roof to breathe
5. Install new treated battens — pressure-treated softwood battens to BS 5534 standards
6. Fit new tiles or slates — using copper or stainless steel nails and clips
7. Renew all leadwork — valleys, flashings, chimney backs, abutments
8. Re-bed ridges and hips — using mortar or dry-fix systems depending on specification
9. Install new eaves protection — eaves trays and ventilation strips
10. Final inspection and sign-off — plus warranty registration

How long does it take?

For a typical 3-bed semi in Wimbledon, expect:

• Strip and re-tile in slate: 5-8 working days
• Strip and re-tile in concrete tile: 4-6 working days
• Larger detached properties: 7-14 working days

Building regulations and approvals

In England, re-roofing is typically covered by Building Regulations approval if more than 25% of the roof is being replaced. We handle this for you — most projects are approved through a Competent Person Scheme (we're registered) without need for full plans.
